About this Program

Becoming a Global Leader is an online program that provides high school students the opportunity to explore their own pathway to leadership through reflection on a speaker series of leaders working on the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Leaders share their own personal journeys to uncover their personal purpose through careers of meaning working on various global issues. Guided and inspired by individual speakers’ stories, students work towards a final statement of purpose that outlines their journey to Becoming a Global Leader. Students completing the course often find the final statement useful for future college admissions or other applications.

Syllabus

Find out more about the contents of the course.

In this section, students get an overview of what the course will look like, as well as an overview of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and a framework for leadership. This is the foundation that will allow students to take advantage of the rest of the course!

In this module, we will introduce the method students will use to synthesize their reflections and learning after going through the course. Students will produce an essay at the end of the course where they reflect not of singular moments, but rather of their life thus far, and where they would like to take it going forward. Secondly, the Leadership journey is about their individual experience of leadership, and what they’ve learned about the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they feel are necessary to exercise leadership.

Students hear from six different leaders who are passionate about the SDGs and are directly working to tackle the challenges and complexities inherent within one goal. Find out more about each leader by scrolling down to the “Who Are the Speakers?” section on this page.

Once students have listened to and learned from six different leaders whose work focuses on one particular UN Sustainable Development Goal, they will have the opportunity to reflect on what they’ve heard so far in this course and consider the implications for themselves and their own leadership journey. Students will find clear prompts and instructions on how to structure their Leadership Journey Statement and get writing!

Students will have the opportunity to review their essay with a leader from the Envoys team, who will help them polish it and make it a very strong piece to allow them to move forward with their next step, which can be a college application, an application for a gap year program, or anything they may need.

This add on has an extra cost of $100 USD.
