Taking action for the benefit of others by giving our time, talent, or treasure is among the most laudable expressions of human society. However, all too often the work performed under the guise of service takes place without the input of the larger community that is ostensibly being served.
This summit takes a fresh look at service learning and altruism, seeking to empower participants to move beyond ‘counting hours’ and learn to find meaningful and ethical opportunities to serve others.
Drawing on what we learned from interviews with experts in the field, we work in small intercultural teams to design service projects that result in responsible engagements with our communities, both local and global.

Global Experiences for Every Student
Global education has always been about what you do, not where you go. The essential and enduring work includes teaching students to appreciate diverse perspectives, understand the connections they have to the wider world, respectively and effectively communicate and collaborate across cultures and countries, and use interdisciplinary knowledge to investigate and take action on issues that matter to them and the wider world.
We believe in the power of learning first-hand from other people‘s experiences and being able to illustrate the concepts we cover in all of our programs with examples of people whose daily work revolves around the issues of global significance. Envoys’ network of wonks, historians, scholars, and practitioners provides access for students to real people who care deeply about improving the world around them.
Both the present and the future require the ability to navigate ambiguity and solve problems together. Students and educators alike must seize the moment to develop meaningful connections and bridge differences. Throughout the summit series, we utilize virtual exchanges and project collaborations to develop empathy, understanding, and respect.
PAY IT FORWARD
The work that matters in the 21st century will be performed by small teams utilizing diverse skill sets and technologies to work across geographic, cultural, and temporal boundaries. Each summit culminates with a collaborative ‘pay-it-forward’ project that helps students to bring learning back to campus and home communities and inspire personal, sustained engagement.
